1.1. Installation

  • Download the latest offline installer from https://www.avast.com/installation-files.

  • Run the avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline-21.8.6586.exe file with administrative privileges.

  • Select Customize.

    C:\Program Files\Avast Software\Avast

  • Click INSTALL.

  • Wait for the installation to finish.

  • Click CONTINUE.

  • Select Skip personalization.

  • Click RUN SMART SCAN.

  • Click NEXT.

  • Select Skip for now to skip updating outdated apps.

  • Click SKIP to confirm.

  • Wait for the scan to finish.

  • Click NEXT.

  • Select Skip for now to skip resolving issues.

  • Click SKIP to confirm.

  • Uncheck Schedule Smart Scan to run once a month.

  • Click DONE.

  • Click IGNORE to skip showing Avast Cleanup Premium stuff.

  • Close the Avast Free Antivirus window.

1.2. Configuration

  • Right-click the Avast Free Antivirus icon in the Notification Area and select Open Avast user interface.

  • Select Menu > Settings.

  • Select the General page.

    • Select the Languages tab.

    • Select the Update tab.

      • Optional: Click CHECK FOR UPDATES.

    • Select the Notifications tab.

      • Check Use silent mode and turn off all pop-ups, alerts and messages.

      • Uncheck Enable Avast sounds.

    • Select the Exceptions tab.

    • Select the Blocked & Allowed apps tab.

    • Select the Password tab.

    • Select the Personal Privacy tab.

      • Uncheck Share threat data with Avast to improve the security of all Avast antivirus users (Community IQ).

      • Uncheck Help improve this app and our other products by sharing app usage data with us.

      • Uncheck Share app-usage with Avast so we may offer you 3rd party products.

    • Select the Troubleshooting tab.

  • Select the Protection page.

    • Select the Virus Scans tab.

    • Select the Core Shields tab.

    • Select the Quarantine tab.

    • Select the Wi-Fi Inspector tab.

    • Select the Ransomware Shield tab.

  • Select the Performance page.

    • Select the Do Not Disturb Mode tab.

    • Select the Software Updater tab.

      • Uncheck Notifications about new updates.

  • Select Close.

  • Close the Avast Free Antivirus window.

1.3. Usage

  • Attach the USB device to the computer.

  • Click SCAN FOR THREATS in the avast popup window.

  • Wait for the scan to finish.

  • Threats found:

    • Click SELECT ALL to select all threats found.

    • Click RESOLVE ALL to remove all threats found.

  • Click DONE.

  • Close the Avast Free Antivirus window.

  • Right-click the USB icon in the Notification Area and select Eject.

  • Detach the USB device from the computer.

  • Threats found:

    • Take the USB device to the IT Helpdesk for repair.
