  • Right-click the Google Drive icon in the Notification Area and select Quit Drive for Desktop.

  • Uninstall from Programs and Features.

  • Remove the HKCU\Software\Google\DriveFS registry key.

  • Remove the C:\Program Files\Google\Drive File Stream folder or rename it in case not all files can be removed due to one or more files being open.

  • Remove the C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Google\DriveFS folder.

  • Restart the computer.

  • Remove the C:\Program Files\Google\Drive File Stream folder.

3.3. Configuration

  • Create the C:\Users\Douwe\Google Drive folder.

  • Start Google Drive.

  • Click Get started.

  • Click Sign in.

  • Type dhkiestra@protonmail.com for Email or phone.

  • Click Next.

  • Type the password.

  • Click Next.

  • Uncheck Desktop

  • Uncheck Documents

  • Uncheck Downloads.

  • Click Skip.

  • Click Got it.

  • Uncheck Pictures

  • Uncheck Videos.

  • Click Skip.

  • Click Next.

  • Click Open Drive.

  • Close Google Drive.

  • Note: To make Google Drive files available offline make sure to right-click on the file or folder and choose Available offline.

  • Start Google Drive.

  • Click the More Options gear icon and select Preferences.

  • Optional: Click No thanks to skip the tour.

  • Select the Google Drive page.

  • Click OK.

  • Choose Mirror Files.

  • Select Change folder location.

  • Select the C:\Users\Douwe\Google Drive folder.

  • Click Select Folder.

  • Click Confirm location.

  • Click Save.

  • Click Restart now.

  • Close Google Drive.

  • Start Google Drive.

  • Click the More Options gear icon and select Preferences.

  • Click the Open Advanced Settings gear icon.

  • Uncheck See if someone else is editing a shared Microsoft Office file.

  • Uncheck Limit cache size.

  • Choose Folder to stream Google Drive files to a folder.

  • Click Change.

  • Select the C:\Users\Douwe\Google Drive folder.

  • Click Select Folder.

  • Click Save.

  • Check Show Google Drive in Quick Access in File Explorer.

  • Choose Original quality to store photos and videos with no change to their quality.

  • Check Upload screenshots.

  • Check Upload RAW files.

  • Check Launch Google Drive when you login to your computer

  • Choose Auto-detect for proxy settings.

  • Uncheck Download rate.

  • Uncheck Upload rate.

  • Uncheck Automatically send diagnostic logs to Google when Drive for desktop encounters a problem.

  • Uncheck Prompt me to back up devices.

  • Click Save.

  • Click Restart now.

  • Close Google Drive.
