2.1. Installation

  • Logon as Administrator.

  • Run the Thunderbird Setup 68.2.2-x64.msi file.

2.2. Configuration

  • Logon as <User>.

  • Start Thunderbird.

    Use Thunderbird as the default client for:
    □ Email
    □ Newsgroups
    ■ Feeds
    
    □ Allow Windows Search to search messages
    □ Always perform this check when starting Thunderbird
  • Click Set as Default.

  • Uncheck gandi.net.

  • Click I think I’ll configure my account later.

  • Click Know your rights.

  • Close the About Your Rights tab.

  • Press the Alt key to show the menu’s.

  • Check View | Toolbars | Menu Bar.

  • Select Tools | Options.

  • Select the Composition page.

  • Select the General tab.

  • Uncheck Use Paragraph format instead of Body Text by default.

  • Select the Advanced page.

  • Select the General tab.

  • Uncheck Always check to see if Thunderbird is the default mail client on startup.

  • Uncheck Allow Windows Search to search messages.

  • Select the Update tab.

    Automatically check for updates to:
    □ Thunderbird
    □ Installed Add-ons
    
    □ Use a background service to install updates
  • Click OK.

  • Close Thunderbird.

  • Start Thunderbird.

  • Select Tools > Options.

  • Select the Advanced page.

  • Select the General tab.

  • Click Config Editor.

  • Click I accept the risk! to confirm.

  • Double-click mailnews.customDBHeaders.

  • Type Received and click OK.

  • Close the about:config window.

  • Click OK.

  • Close Thunderbird.

2.2.1. Disable Quote Bars

  • Logon as <User>.

  • Start Thunderbird.

  • Select Tools > Options.A

  • Select the Advanced tab.

  • Select the General tab.

  • Click Config Editor.

  • Click I accept the risk!.

  • Type Quote in the search bar.

  • Double-click mail.qouted_graphical to set it to false.

  • Close the about:config window.

  • Click OK.

  • Close Thunderbird.

  • Enter the following commands at a Command Line.

    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -P

2.3. Email account set up

2.3.1. IMAP

  • Logon as <User>.

  • Start Thunderbird.

  • Optional: Uncheck gandi.net.

  • Optional: Uncheck Hover.com.

  • Optional: Click I think I’ll configure my account later.

  • Select Tools | Account Settings.

  • Select Account Actions | Add Mail Account.

  • OXFORD Email: Right-click <User>@ndm.ox.ac.uk and select Settings.

  • Select <User>@<domain name> | Server Settings.

  • Optional: Check Empty Trash on Exit.

  • Click OK.

  • Close Thunderbird.

2.3.2. POP3

  • Logon as <User>.

  • Start Thunderbird.

  • Optional: Uncheck gandi.net.

  • Optional: Uncheck Hover.com.

  • Optional: Click I think I’ll configure my account later.

  • Select Tools | Account Settings.

  • Select Account Actions | Add Mail Account.

  • Optional: Check Empty Trash on Exit.

  • Close Thunderbird.

2.4. Add-ons

2.4.1. Lighting

2.4.1.1. Installation
  • Logon as <User>.

  • Start Thunderbird.

  • Select Tools | Add-ons.

  • Click the Tools for all add-ons button and select Install Add-on From File.

  • Select the lightning-1.5-tb+sm-windows.xpi file.

  • Click Open.

  • Click Install Now.

  • Click Restart Now.

  • Close the Add-ons Manager tab.

  • Close Thunderbird.

2.4.1.2. Configuration
  • Logon as <User>.

  • Start Thunderbird.

  • Select Tools | Options.

  • Select the Calendar page.

  • Select the Views tab.

  • Select Monday for start the week on.

  • Select the TimeZone tab.

  • Select Asia/Bangkok.

  • Click OK.

  • Close Thunderbird.

2.4.2. LookOut

2.4.2.1. Installation

This fixes the winmail.dat attachments due to email sent by Microsoft Exchange.

  • Logon as <User>.

  • Start Thunderbird.

  • Select Tools | Add-ons.

  • Type LookOut in the search box and press Enter.

  • Select LookOut (fix version) | Install.

  • Click Install Now.

  • Click Restart now.

  • Close the Add-ons Manager tab.

  • Close Thunderbird.

2.5. Import

2.5.1. Mail from Outlook to Thunderbird

  • Logon as <User>.

  • Start Thunderbird.

  • Select Tools | Import.

  • Choose Mail.

  • Click Next.

  • Select Outlook.

  • Click Next.

  • Click Finish.

  • Close Thunderbird.

  • Start Windows Explorer.

  • Go to the C:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Thunderbird folder.

  • Go to the Profiles\<profile>.default\Mail folder.

  • Move the contents of the Local Folders\Outlook Import.sbd folder to the mail.lonex.com folder.

  • Click Yes to All.

  • Delete the Local Folders\Outlook Import.sbd folder

  • Delete the Local Folders\Outlook Import.msf file

  • Delete the Local Folders\Outlook Import file

  • Close Windows Explorer.

2.5.2. Address Books from Outlook to Thunderbird:

  • Logon as <User>.

  • Start Thunderbird.

  • Select Tools | Import.

  • Choose Address Books.

  • Click Next.

  • Select Outlook.

  • Click Next.

  • Click Finish.

  • Close Thunderbird.
