1. Installation

  • Run the WinMerge-2.16.54-x64-Setup.exe file with administrative privileges.

  • Click Next.

    C:\Program Files\WinMerge
  • Click Next.

    Typical Installation
    ■ WinMerge Core Files
    ■ 32-bit WinMerge ShellExtension
    ■ Filters
    ■ Plugins
    □ Languages
  • Click Next.

  • Click Next.

    Optional Features:
    ■ Enable Explorer context menu integration
    □ Add WinMerge folder to your system path
    Additional shortcuts:
    □ Create a desktop shortcut
  • Click Next.

  • Select Install.

  • Optional: Choose Automatically close the applications.

  • Click Next.

  • Uncheck Launch WinMerge.

  • Click Finish.

1.1. WinMerge 7z interface plugin

  • Log on as Administrator.

  • Double-click the Merge7zInstaller0028-465-920.exe file.

  • Select Merge7z920U.dll.

  • Choose Shared installation.

  • Click OK.

  • Select This program installed correctly.

1.2. WinMerge xdoc plugin

  • Log on as Administrator.

  • Start Windows Explorer.

  • Extract the contents from the xdocdiffPlugin folder in the xdocdiffPlugin_1_0_6d.zip archive to the C:\Program Files\WinMerge folder.

  • Close Windows Explorer.

2. Configuration

  • Start WinMerge.

  • Select Edit > Options.

  • Select the General page.

  • Check Automatically scroll to first difference.

  • Select the Shell Integration page.

  • Check Add to context menu.

  • Uncheck Enable advanced menu.

  • Click Register shell extension.

  • Click OK.

  • Click OK.

  • Select Plugins > Automatic Unpacking.

  • Close WinMerge.

  • Start Windows Explorer.

  • Select two folders.

  • Right-click the two folders and select WinMerge.

  • Uncheck View > Show Identical Items in WinMerge.

  • Close WinMerge.

  • Close Windows Explorer.
