Employed by SMRU (Shoklo Malaria Research Unit) at Mae Sot, Thailand. As IT System Administrator and IT Specialist during the first 8 years. The last 8 years as IT System Administrator and IT Manager.
In 2009, due to expansion of the main office at Mae Sot it was decided to upgrade the existing IT infrastructure and I started an ANC (antenatal care) patient registration system for the SMRU clinics. My three major duties were system administration at the main office and all SMRU clinics, training of local IT staff and additional development of the ANC patient registration system at the clinics.
In 2017, due to further growth of SMRU, the IT Department hired more staff and I became IT Manager. Then in 2020, SMRU moved to Mae Ramat, 30 km north of Mae Sot in a new office. This required the installation of a complete new network infrastructure, including uninterruptable power supplies, managed network switches, firewalls, ethernet cabling and wireless access points.
The main duties included installation and maintenance of Windows and Linux servers, work stations and notebooks. Training of local staff in daily system administration duties like backups, email, firewalls, problem solving, security, testing, updates, virtualization, etc. Configuration and maintenance of firewalls/proxies at the main office and the clinics. Maintenance of the Linux based central database server at the main office and a web server with wireless connected notebooks running the ANC application at each clinic.
Acquired knowledge of the following hardware: APC UPSes, Commscope Ruckus and Ubiquity UniFi access points, Dell PowerEdge servers, HPE Aruba network switches, and Sophos firewalls. And the following software: Active Directory, Apache web server, Asciidoctor documentation system, CrowdStrike anti-virus software, Debian Linux, Git with GitHub, JavaScript, Microsoft 365, PHP scripting language for web development, PostgreSQL / SQL Server databases, PowerShell, Python, Virtualization, and Zendto server.

Employed by NKI-AvL at Amsterdam, The Netherlands as an Application Specialist. The Netherlands Cancer Institute and the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital acquired a new Electronic Hospital Information System provided by the Dutch company ChipSoft. That system allows for extensive customisation.
Assisted in installing the new ChipSoft system by configuring it for each particular group of users. The main tasks involved further detailed system configuration, solving problems, instructing users how to use new functionality and installing new features including updates. Another task was administration of MetaVision, an operating room and intensive care unit patient data monitoring system from the Tel Aviv based company iMDsoft. Acquired knowledge of virtualisation software like VMware and VirtualBox, and gained further experience in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and the SQL language.

Employed by Taxameter at Amsterdam, The Netherlands as a Software Developer. Taxameter provides parking meters and all related administering software for cities and local municipalities. Implemented and installed parking ticket software at several customers using third party software and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or 2005 databases. Also, performed extensive testing of new software features with detailed bug reporting to the third party software developers.

Employed by Delta Instruments at Drachten, The Netherlands as a Senior Software Developer and System Administrator. Delta Instruments develops, produces and sells analytical instruments for the dairy market.
Architectural and system design using Object Oriented techniques, writing test and quality checklists, making software for the Windows 9x/2K/XP platforms using Delphi 5/7 and training of junior staff.
Projects for design and coding of real-time software using 8051 based micro controllers and PC/104 based DOS systems for milk analysers. A project about data collection and statistical software. Employed by AT&T at Hilversum, The Netherlands as a Software Developer at the Hardware Department. AT&T, currently known as Alcatel-Lucent (acquired by Nokia in 2016), is one of the major companies in the telecommunications business.
Design of real-time firmware and software for the 5ESS telephone exchange, with use of detailed hardware knowledge. Acquired experience with microprocessors, Field Programmable Gate Arrays, Digital Signal Processors, Unix, MS-DOS, X Windows, C, assembler languages, software version control, code inspections, structured analysis, object oriented design, emulators and very large software systems.
