Windows Server Update Services
1. Installation
-
Start Server Manager.
-
Select Dashboard.
-
Click Add roles and features.
-
Click Next.
-
Choose Role-based or feature-based installation.
-
Click Next.
-
Choose Select a server from the server pool.
-
Select SMRU-WSUS01.
-
Click Next.
-
Check Windows Server Update Services.
-
Check Include management tools (if applicable).
-
Click Add Features.
-
Click Next.
-
Click Next.
-
Click Next.
-
Check WID Connectivity.
-
Check WSUS Services.
-
Uncheck SQL Server Connectivity.
-
Click Next.
-
Check Store updates in the following location (choose a valid local path on SMRU-WSUS01, or a remote path):.
-
Type
D:\WSUS Updatesin the path field. -
Click Next.
-
Click Next.
-
Click Next.
-
Uncheck Restart the destination server automatically if required.
-
Click Install.
-
Wait about 5 minutes for installation to finish.
-
Click Close.
-
Click Notification icon and select Launch Post-Installation tasks.
-
Wait for it to finish.
-
Close Server Manager.
-
Restart the server.
2. Configuring
-
Start Server Manager.
-
Select Tools > Windows Server Update Services.
-
Click Next.
-
Uncheck Yes, I would like to join the Microsoft Update Improvement Program.
-
Click Next.
-
Choose Synchronize from Microsoft Update.
-
Click Next.
-
Uncheck Use a proxy server when synchronizing.
-
Click Next.
-
Click Start Connecting.
-
Wait for the connecting to finish.
-
Click Next.
-
Choose Download updates only in these languages:.
-
Check English.
-
Click Next.
-
Check Microsoft Security Essentials.
-
Optionsl: Check Office > Office 2010.
-
Optionsl: Check Office > Office 2013.
-
Optionsl: Check Office > Office 2016.
-
Optionsl: Check Office > Office 2019.
-
Optionsl: Check Office > Office 365 Client.
-
Optionsl: Check Silverlight.
-
Optionsl: Check Sql Server > Microsoft SQL Server 2014.
-
Optionsl: Check Sql Server > Microsoft SQL Server 2016.
-
Optionsl: Check Sql Server > Microsoft SQL Server 2017.
-
Optionsl: Check Sql Server > Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio v17.
-
Optionsl: Check Sql Server > Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio v18.
-
Check Windows > Microsoft Defender Antivirus.
-
Check Windows > Windows 10, version 1903 and later.
-
Check Windows > Windows 10.
-
Optionsl: Check Windows > Windows Server 2016.
-
Optionsl: Check Windows > Windows Server 2019.
-
Click Next.
-
Check Critical Updates.
-
Check Definition Updates.
-
Check Feature Packs.
-
Check Security Updates.
-
Check Service Packs.
-
Check Tools.
-
Check Update Roollups.
-
Check Updates.
-
Check Upgrades.
-
Click Next.
-
Choose Synchronize automatically
-
Set First synchroniztion: 1:00:00 AM.
-
Set Synchronizations per day: 1.
-
Click Next.
-
Check Begin initial synchronization.
-
Click Next.
-
Click Finish.
-
Wait till the Synchronizing finish.
-
Close Windows Server Update Services.
-
Close Server Manager.
Add Computer Group
-
Select LAB-WSUS > Computers > All Computers.
-
Right-click All Computers and select Add Computer Group.
-
Type
<Group name>in the Name: field.
Add GPO option
-
Start Server Manager.
-
Select Tools > Windows Server Update Services.
-
Select Options.
-
Click Computers.
-
Choose Use Group Policy or registry settings on computers.
-
Click Apply.
-
Click OK.
-
Close Windows Server Update Services.
-
Close Server Manager.
