1. Automatic Feature Update

1.1. Post Feature Update Configuration

  • Todo: Fix missing network drives due to too fast logon.

  • Todo: Fix missing Start menu entries.

  • Todo: Fix PC settings not opening for Administrator account. Workarounds:

    • Press Windows+I.

    • Press Windows+X and select Settings.

    • Type start ms-settings: in a Command Prompt.

  • Perform standard Computer Maintenance.

  • Check that the CPU architecture is not shown as Unknown.

  • Check that the home folder of the Administrator account does not have the .000 suffix.

2. Manual Feature Update

2.1. Installation

  • Make sure that Windows boots from its MBR and not from GRUB when Linux is installed next to Windows (dual boot system).

  • Make sure that there is at least 20 GB of disk space on the C: system drive.

  • Make sure to disable any local user account with administrative privileges.

  • Start File Explorer.

  • ISO:

    • Select the W:\Images\Windows\Windows 10\22H2 or W:\Images\Windows\Windows 11\22H2 folder.

    • Faster Windows 10/11 Feature Update: Copy the relevant .iso file to the C:\Tmp folder.

    • Windows 11 on unsupported hardware:

      • Enter the following commands at a Command Prompt with administrative privileges.

        x:
        cd X:\sources
        setupprep.exe /product server
    • Windows Enterprise: Open the en-us_windows_11_business_editions_version_22h2_x64_dvd_17a08ce3.iso file with File Explorer.

    • Windows Pro: Open the en-us_windows_11_consumer_editions_version_22h2_x64_dvd_e630fafd.iso file with File Explorer.

  • USB: Attach the Win 10 22H2 iso or Win 11 22H2 iso USB key.

    • Windows 10 Enterprise: Attach the Win 10 22H2 iso USB key.

    • Windows 10 Pro: Attach the Win 10 22H2 iso USB key.

    • Windows 11 Enterprise: Attach the Win 11 22H2 iso USB key.

    • Windows 11 Pro: Attach the Win 11 22H2 iso USB key.

  • Run the setup.exe file with administrative privileges.

  • Close File Explorer.

  • Wait for the Windows 10/11 Setup window to pop up.

  • Select Change how Windows Setup downloads updates.

  • Choose Not right now.

    ○ Download updates, drivers and optional features (recommended)
    ● Not right now
    □ I want to help make the installation of Windows better
  • Click Next.

  • Click Accept.

    ● Keep files, settings, and apps
    ○ Keep personal files only
    ○ Nothing
  • Click Next.

    ■ Install Windows 10/11 Enterprise/Pro
    ■ Keep files, settings, and apps
  • Click Install.

  • Wait about 30 minutes for the feature update to finish.

  • Click OK at the Open-Shell Menu dialog.

  • Click Yes at the User Account Control dialog.

  • Click OK at the Open-Shell Menu dialog.

2.2. Configuration

  • Perform standard Computer Maintenance.

  • Check that the CPU architecture is not shown as Unknown.

  • Check that the home folder of the Administrator account does not have the .000 suffix.

3. After Feature Update

  • Login as Administrator.

  • Open Command Prompt with administrative privileges.

  • Run Set-WindowsConfiguration.

  • Log off and again log on.

  • Reinstall OpenSSH Server.

  • Run Invoke-ComputerCleanup.

  • Restart the computer.

4. Rollback Feature Update

4.1. Rollback

  • Open PC settings.

  • Select Update & Security.

  • Select the Recovery tab.

  • Click Go back to the previous version of Windows 10/11 > Get started.

  • Check My apps or devices don’t work on this build.
